Mid Maryland Wrestling League

The MMWL is a competitive rec league with approximately 20 teams from Frederick County, MD and surrounding areas. This league supports wrestlers ages 5-14 and covers all levels of experience. Regular season events run from January through Mid February. Post Season is Late February - the 1st Weekend in March.

Regular Season

Time & Locations

Events are located within 30 mins of New Market, MD. Hosted at local high schools. The majority of events are on Sunday mornings. Total event time is 3-4 hours.

Weekly Events

Events are held once per week for 7 weeks starting in January. The goal is to get each wrestler 2-4 matches per event. Wrestlers may leave once they have completed their matches.

Pairings

The host team will create matches prior to the event. Wresters will be paired based on age/weight/experience. The goal is to provide each wrestler with matchups that will be competitive based on wrestlers available.

Matches

Each match will be 3-1 minute periods unless a fall (pin) or tech fall (win by 15 points) occurs. Wrestlers will be required to wear their singlet and head gear. Officials in these events are local high school wrestlers.

MMWL Qualifiers

Time & Location

The qualifier will be held on a Sunday at a local high school. An arrival time will be posted in TeamSnap prior to the event. This event takes place in late February. Wrestlers may leave once their bracket is complete or after elimination.

Weigh Ins

Weigh ins are required for this event. These will be held at a local high school on a weekday before the event. Our roster will be based on weights recorded in the beginning for the season. You must let your coach know if a wrestler needs to move up in weight. Date/time will be posted in TeamSnap

Brackets

Brackets for this event will be based on age & weight only. There is no separation for experience. Brackets will be seeded based on regular season results. While all wrestlers are welcome to participate, this event is recommended for wrestlers with 2+ years experience or wrestlers with a 50% win percentage. Top 4 in each bracket qualifiy for MMWL Championship

Matches

Each match will be 3-1 minute periods unless a fall (pin) or tech fall (win by 15 points) occurs. This event is double elimination. Wrestlers will be required to wear their singlet and head gear. Officials in this event are Maryland Wrestling Officials.

MMWL Championships

Time & Location

The MMWL Championships will be held on a Sunday at a local high school. An arrival time will be posted in TeamSnap prior to the event. This event takes place in late February/ early March. Wrestlers may leave once their bracket is complete or after elimination.

Weigh Ins

Weigh ins are not required for this event. Weight class will be based on Qualifier weights. Weight changes are not allowed prior to this event.

Brackets

Brackets for this event will be based on age & weight only. The top 4 wrestlers from each qualifier will be placed in an 8 person bracket. Brackets will be seeded based on placement in qualifiers. Top 4 receive an award.
